Hot Air Balloon FAQs: The Questions You’ve Always Wondered (And Some You Haven’t!)

Over the years, we’ve received some truly funny, curious, and unexpected questions from our passengers, and we love hearing from you! Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned balloonist, we know there’s always something new on your mind. From pets to parachutes, the questions we get can be as unique as our flights. So, we’ve put together a list of some of the best questions we’ve received, along with answers to help you prepare for your unforgettable experience.

Can I bring my pet chihuahua for the flight?
We love furry friends, but unfortunately, they’ll have to stay on the ground for this one! Maybe they can wave from below?

Is there a day of the week that usually has the best sunrise?
As much as we’d love to guarantee perfect weather, the conditions can vary. We always keep a close eye on the forecast to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, no matter when you fly!

Can you fly directly over my house?
We’d love to give you a personal tour, however the exact route depends on the wind conditions. But rest assured, you’ll still get incredible bird’s-eye views no matter where we fly!

How’s the weather looking for my flight in 2 months time?
We wish we could predict the future, but the weather’s a little out of our control! Our pilots give us a forecast about 3 days in advance, so check back closer to your flight date for the latest updates.

Do I need to put my phone on airplane mode?
Not at all! Feel free to keep your phone on as normal. Be sure to capture some stunning photos as we float through the sky! Tag us @globalballooning and use #globalballooning—we’d love to see your adventure through your eyes!

Do You Supply Parachutes in the Basket?
As a professional commercial aviation operator, we can confidently assure you that parachutes aren’t necessary during our flights. Hot air balloons are designed to be incredibly stable and operate at a slow, controlled pace. In the unlikely event of an issue, our highly trained pilots follow strict safety protocols to ensure everything is handled smoothly. Plus, our landings are gentle and soft, making parachutes unnecessary. Rest assured, your safety is our number one priority!

Will I feel motion sickness?
Good news—our balloons don’t come with seat belts or barf bags because you won’t need them! Unlike planes or boats, there’s no turbulence, no rocking, and no “please remain seated” announcements during your standing adventure. It’s so smooth, you’ll feel like you’re floating on a cloud!
