World Environment Day – 5 June
At Global Ballooning, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and operate more sustainably. While much of the conversation around sustainability focuses on fuel, transport, and waste reduction, there is another growing source of emissions that many businesses are only beginning to consider: the technology we use every day.
This World Environment Day, we’re proud to announce that Global Ballooning has joined Greenfleet’s AI ImpactCover program, helping to offset the environmental impact associated with the artificial intelligence (AI) tools that we use across our business.
Why AI Has an Environmental Impact
Artificial intelligence is transforming the way businesses operate. From improving customer service and streamlining admin, to supporting marketing, content creation, and business planning, AI tools help us work more efficiently and deliver a better experience for our passengers.
However, AI systems require significant computing power. The data centres that support these technologies consume energy and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. As AI adoption continues to grow around the world and within our business, so too does the importance of recognising and managing its environmental footprint.
What is AI ImpactCover?
AI ImpactCover is an initiative developed by Greenfleet, in partnership with Cool Planet, an independent environmental and climate consultancy.
The program was created in response to the growing environmental footprint of artificial intelligence. While AI offers significant benefits for businesses and communities, the computing power behind these tools requires substantial energy and water resources. AI ImpactCover provides a practical way for organisations to acknowledge and compensate for that impact.
Every contribution supports Greenfleet’s native reforestation projects across Australia, helping bring biodiverse forests back to life, capture carbon, and create better habitats for wildlife – while also supporting initiatives that improve water quality.
